Past Tatra Register UK Events

Here are some images from a few past Tatra Register UK events, and some to which we have been invited. We'd be glad to receive pictures and words recording any that we've not so far included. We're aiming to get this page a bit more up to date in early 2018!

Classic Motor Show 2010

NEC, Birmingham

1. Seven finned Tatra streamliners at the show - a UK record

2. Every line of finned streamliner represented on the Tatra Register UK stand - unprecedented ...and with no exhibits from our award-winning 2008 display

3. Runner-up for "Best Medium-sized Club Stand"

4. Ivan Margolius's T600 Tatraplan - 1940s Class Winner, Bauer Media Classic Car of the Year competition

5. Kees Smit's 1937 T77a - Car of the Show!

Classic Motor Show 2009

NEC, Birmingham

Unable to make an immediate return to the Classic Motor Show after 2008's award-winning effort, we were lucky to be invited onto Bauer Media's stand, where we built a T603 engine from scratch under the Practical Classics banner.

Classic Motor Show 2008

NEC, Birmingham

Our first official club presence at the NEC show for thirteen years involved a huge effort and, for a small club like ours, considerable expense, but what a result! ...the award for 'Best medium-size Club stand' when we currently have less than 80 paid-up members around the world!

For anyone who's not been involved in a project like this, there's a surprising amount of work behind a display of six vehicles in a relatively simple setting. Dave Richards concentrated on assembling the best, and most varied selection available, involving the shipping of two exhibits from the Czech Republic, one of which was en route to the US.

Many thanks to Dave, along with Vita Hinner and his Ecorra team from CZ, Jeff Lane in Nashville for enabling the inclusion of his V855 re-creation, the providers of all our other exhibits, and the impressive number of our members who attended as active 'staff'.

...and if you were one of our visitors, a big thanks to you for coming to see us, and for your interest in our vehicles and their history! We're not just an owners' club. Annual membership costs little more than a day pass to the Classic Motor Show, and all our members were able to join us FOC - you'd be very welcome as a member!

6th Annual Rally, Coventry & Warwickshire 2007

Click on these links for three great albums of copyright photos from Sam Glover, Davydutchy and Dave Richards ...fantastic pictures of a great event, and a record turnout for us of 22 vehicles and 47 people (including: USA x7, Czech Republic x4, Netherlands x1, Ireland x2, Wales x2). A freshly built T12 Targa Florio replica was delivered from CZ, by Ecorra, to Jeff and Sue Lane from Tennessee, while Jonathan and Olly Rose brought along the recently re-discovered chassis of Captain Fitzmaurice's Harrington-bodied 1933 Olympia Motor Show V590 (pre-production T75).

5th Annual Rally, Llanelli 2006 "Speed, Castles & Dragons"

Between 11-14 August, 19 members of Tatra Register UK met up in Wales for the club's fifth annual rally. Seven Tatra cars attended, and members without cars present played 'musical Tatras', blagging lifts and rides in passenger seats to enjoy the experience of Tatra travel. For three nights the club stayed at the appropriately named Diplomat Hotel, Llanelli. Members toured to Pendine Museum of Speed, Laugharne castle and Dylan Thomas's boathouse where much of Under Milk Wood was written, then to Kidwelly Castle to complete the first day's itinerary. On the Sunday, a visit was made to Paxton's Tower, a 19th Century folly, then the to the impressive Carreg Cennan castle before a pub stop for afternoon tea and welsh cakes. Monday morning's tour took the cars to Kidwelly Industrial Museum, home of the Welsh tinplate industry, and then to Pembrey circuit for three parade laps as a grand finale.

Time for a bit of fun? If you've got QuickTime on your machine, turn your sound to max and click on the Pembrey shot above ...wait for our little movie to download (a couple of minutes or so, maybe) and join Paul Wilson in his blue 603. Meadowbrook Concours d'Elegance, USA 2006

Canadian member, John Long, pitted his 1938 Tatra T77a against five Bugatti convertibles, two Horchs, a Talbot Lago, a Daimler and a Bentley, at Meadowbrook, which is one of the top three shows in North America. One of the Horchs was 'Best of Show' at Pebble Beach, which might be interpreted as 'best in the World'. With such stiff competition, John was very pleased with his 'yellow ribbon' - a special award for Engineering Excellence - particularly as he was among a minority who drove their cars to the show, and now feels that he needs somehow to share his award with Hans Ledwinka and Erich Übelacker!

4th Annual Rally, Knaresborough 2005

3rd Annual Rally, Sywell 2004

Based at the refitted art deco Aviator Hotel at Sywell airfield near Northampton, our itinerary took us as far as Stondon Motor Museum, whose collection includes a non-running T603.

2nd Annual Rally, Peterborough 2003

Our 2003 event was based at the Orton Hall Hotel, near Peterborough, taking in Hamerton Wildlife Park, The Nene Valley Railway, Elton Hall and Burghley House, and attracted eleven Tatras during the course of the weekend.

The line up at Burghley House. Svend Carstensen's T613-4 Mi Long and, in the foreground, Adam Drake-Brockman's T613-3, now owned by Andrew Fawcett.

The Tisdales' T2-603, Bob Hughes's T12, now with a Dutch enthusiast, Allen Walker's T2-603 and Roddy Barron's T613-3, now with Paul Wilson.

The T603s and Svend Cartensen's T613-4 Mi Long

At the wildlife centre, with former chairman Adrian Shooter's brand-new Hindustan Ambassador providing a contrast.

Right to left, Tisdale T2-603, Carstensen T613-4 Mi Long from Denmark, McEntagart T613-3 from Dublin, Richards T2-603 and T613-4 Mi, Barron and Drake-Brockman T613-3s and Wilson T2-603.

Porsche 356 Meeting, Beaulieu 2003

Tatra Register UK members were invited by Porsche Club GB to join Porsche 356 owners at Beaulieu. It was a good day out with free entry and a picnic lunch provided, and the excellent weather was a bonus.

Delwyn Mallett's T87, Michael Miskovic's T613 Speciál, now with Simon Redrup, and Paul Wilson's T2-603

Air Cool 2003 - Duxford

A huge success at this new venue. Our pictures do not do justice to the event, as an enormous number of vehicles from Porsches to Panhards were present, with vintage cars and motorcycles well represented. Air Cool was promoted by Tatra Register UK's then-membership secretary Derrick Moores.

T613? And what type would sir like, exactly? Right to left: Ratcliffe T613-2, Frost T613-3, Miskovic T613 Speciál, Jones T613-4 Mi.

Aerodynamic Tatras in chronological order: Gane T87, Caton T600 Tatraplan and Saxl T2-603

Not a bad turnout for the UK! Left to right: Mallett, Foy and Gane T87s.

...and from behind.

1st Annual Rally, Hants & Berks 2002

For many years our best-attended gathering was our AGM weekend, but this first stand-alone touring event was a fantastic success, with several owners bringing their cars from Europe to join in the rally. The late Gerry Killey and wife Maureen's excellent organisation ensured that everyone enjoyed themselves.

Kees Smit's superb T87, brought over from the Netherlands fresh from its restoration by Ecorra in the Czech Republic, and Frantisek Prosecky's Czech T613-2, sadly written off in an accident after returning to its homeland.

Ian & Kirsten Tisdale's T613-4 Mi Long, with Adrian Shooter and his Austin in the background

René Berger's beautiful late T2-603, after its 1,000 mile trip from the Czech Republic

Dave & Sam Richards's T603-3 on its first outing with them

Paul Wilson's metallic blue T603-3 looking good in the summer sun

Derrick Moores's unique 4.3 litre T613-4 Mi special
